3: What YOU'VE Learned

While research is the act of looking again, the act of asking questions and seeking answers--research relies upon what we know. The key is that we begin with knowledge. Who we are and what we know drives what we choose to research and how we research it. In the style of Monet's poem, what do you know? Please post your poem when you have completed it. Be prepared to respond to 2 peers poems with warm feedback and questions by Tuesday, September3 before the start of class.

  1. I know when hearts are broken it and it hard to find all the pieces to put back together. I know a smile is sometimes there to disguise are true emotions. I know there is a soft side to me I rather keep buried down to my grave of feelings. I know there is a lot of fake people that act like they want to be apart of your life but just want to watch you fail. I know people tell beautiful lies to hide the hideous truth. I know a lot of thoughts go through my head, which can overwhelmed a person to become so down. I know I can act like a jerk to people. I know there are time when I'm sad and I know i should be happy. I know it doesn't matter how long you live but it matters how good you live those years. I know I have to be a person that is living their life not someone that just exist. I know life always goes on even if your time seems to have stopped. I know everyone has insecurities which holds them back from achieving opportunities which they could have accomplished. I know this is the end of my poem but also I know this is not the end of my journey

    1. Your poem is great. I like the details and the emotion that you put in the poem. The line that stood out to me was " I know everyone has insecurities which holds them back from achieving opportunities which they could have accomplished."
      Excellent Job.

  3. I know who I am by the way I am funny, creative and sometimes sad. I know I'm not famous but I like to pretend. I know I don't need a lot of friends because my bestfriend ( Brenda) is all that counts. I know I'm not always right but I'm not wrong either. I know I can't change myself by trying to express myself. I know my bestfriend is like my left and right hand because she help me understand who I am. I know I'm fat but that still doesn't stop me from eating. I know my favorite color use to be blue but now its black. I know around my friends I'm normal but deep down inside I'm super weird. I know I can't sing but when I'm alone in my room I like to pretend like I'm lady gaga. I know I have haters but I think of them as my motivators. I know I cant fly but in my dream I can try.

  4. I know that every child livein the life of a broken home. Is normally treated as an unknown. But their trying to make their life as known. I know that every guy want to be a drug dealer. WHY???? To have the fancy cars, The lastest shoes but where will all that be at once u six feet under, Your picture than faded away on ur guys shirt. Your girl dating the next boy with the fancy things, Your bestfriend. putting things on ur name like it suppose to mean somthing. I know i live in chicago where the drop out rates are real high. Where the gun laws dont even exist. Where u can find a child prefering to pick a gun up than picking up a book. Where a child can sing sing cheif keef bang bang before they can even say there abc's. Where kids grew up on noddles and kool aid than a hot meal and water. I know sex, drugs and gangs is all us teens think think about. Worrying about who can get that first or what u got on this loud or even what u is? I know that its unlikely to hear a highschool having 100% of their students graduate and get accepted to college is naturally unbelieveable why because of race??? I know i am going to to college and i know i am going to do good with my life. I know life is hard but thats tge reason we living for.

  5. I look at the blue sky, and wonder why it's blue. I look at the grass and wonder why it's green. I look at myself in the mirror and say why I'm so happy in my life, and I think I have a dark side, but I never unleash it I keep it hidden inside of me. I wear this purple shirt for a reason, it's to symbolize me as a hard worker, not a slacker. I love music, I love the sound and beats of the soundtrack, I listen to when I wake up in the morning. I eat oatmeal, I like the warm taste when I swallow it. My mom raised two children by yourself, by staying in your moms house that she was forced back to move in.

  6. I know laughter heals all wounds.
    I know music is amazing.
    I know the government lies.
I know people worry too much.
I know life is as easy as you make it.
I know failure isn't an option.
    I know love is real.
    I know school is easy.
I know good vibes when I feel them.
I know I'm hungry as I'm writing this.
I know red is the best color.
I know I dont care as much as other people do.

    1. I like this poem a lot. Especially when you say," I know the government lies." I feel like this is true. I can agree with this completely, because I feel like the government does lie, a LOT! Good poem though it's short and to the point. Question what exactly do you think the government lies about.

    2. The line where you say, "I know music is amazing" I agree with you on that. Music is the one thing that I enjoy in life. I can go to music for whatever mood I am in. Why do you think music is so amazing? What about music attracts you the most? Music has to be part of my life because I will be lost without it.

  7. I know I'm not a good writer but I don't want to fail!! I know I absolutely HATE Capricorns , Aquarius, and Sagittarius! I know Jesus birthday isn't really on December. I know sometimes I feel more sorry for homeless dogs then actual homeless people. I know the key to MY happiness is when I make someone else happy. I know the worst feeling in the world is when someone is mad at me. I know I'm the oldest out of two brothers and one sister, the oldest out of 34 grandchildren, that my grandmother has. So, I know! that I have to graduate and be successful and set good examples for them so they can one day say "I want to be like my big cousin, Brenda, when I grow up". I know my favorite subject is history because honestly that's the only class I believe I'm good at. I know many people thought that I wasn't going to even make it to my senior year but boy I showed them!! I know my ACT score was low, but that's not going to stop me. I know good things always always happens to bad people, and bad things always happens to the good people, maybe I should be a bad person for a chance and get rewarded for it. I know I don't like to fight but if I have to, I swear I would. I know I HATE watching sports. I know I hate when everybody in the house is watching the bulls game and I'm just sitting there looking lost because I don't know what anything means. I know this poem isn't good but at least I did something this time.

  8. I know my parents love me but, sometimes they take their anger out because they don't love themselves. I know that when they were my age they didn't have the sense or the strength to succeed in high school. I also know that when my dad starts fights with me that's his way of saying baby I love you, even if I don't understand it. I know that I want to go to college but, that doesn't mean I will, it doesn't mean I'll succeed. It just means I'll be better then them. I know if I don't I'll go crazy, I know that I want my own apartment and job so, that I can go out in the world prepared. I know I'm scared of the dark. I know it means an endless amount of unhappiness. I know I hate being alone. I know I need someone to love me or I'll feel incomplete. I know sometimes I hate my life. I know that when I cry or hurt no one cares.

  9. I know boys have feelings but most of the time they're never as strong as the female's in a relationship, and for that reason females often get their feelings hurt. I know females look for love in the wrong places, and can't even love themselves first. I know we only live one life, and for that reason we must live it to the fullest. I know that education is the key to success wealth and accomplishments. I must strive for the best. I know death and funerals bring families closer together. I know how to hide my pain with a smile. I know pregnancy is so common in teens and they're just to young for a child. I know that I'll never be the same without my grandmother. Losing someone close to you hurts, and everyone has experienced this pain. I know that life comes with many obstacles. All that I can and will overcome. I know that the sun sets and rises everyday. Another day another dollar some often say. I know love is a drug. A strong dose to be precise. I know I should always stick to my first mind and never second guess things. Mistakes are what makes things better. I know I'm no poet but I can still give you an insight on both my knowledge and life.

    1. I agree with your preference to always follow your second mind. But sometimes second-guessing things can save you from an unpleasant situation or catch vital and subliminal details that'll help you make informed decisions. So I ask, is it always smart to follow your first mind? Or does second guessing things help out in the long run?

  10. As I look around I learned that I am black and not white. I learned that I am tall and not born a midget. I have learned that the is sky is blue not red. I learned that being raised by a single mother could be wonderful thing. I learned why drugs was Made. I learned why drugs couldn't also be like another medicine. I really learned why they sell this to your people to see them kill themselves. I learned that money makes the world go around. I learned how to duck and dive every-time I hear burning tires. I learned that you don't know whats going to happen in the future. I learned why people have kids or get married. I learned that one day I must die.

  11. I know I was born a black boy. I know that every since the day my mother pushed me from her womb the odds of this world have been pushed against. I know that every since that day my life has been one of music, art, books, food cursing and poetry. I know that that list was a little long for a poem line. i know that poetry doesn't follow the ramifications of grammar. I know this poem doesn't rhyme.I know you're wondering, why? I know this poem is about to get real. Because i Know that there are no dream is in the ghetto, only helpless hopes and abandon ambitions. I know that Santa Claus is not real. But i know how it feels to believe that he truly is. I know that knowledge is the key to a door that can only be open from the outside in. I know a poets greatest weapon is a pen. I know my mind thinks thought a thousand tick tocks of every hour on every clock. I know i am more than just a statistic. I know it is impossible to get rich quick; no matter what the commercials say. I know I was born a hemophiliac. I know blood isn't always thicker than water. I know the sun shines brighter after rain. I know you can never reach the end of the rainbow, but i know it fun to imagine you can. I know sand is nothing but a bunch of small rocks. I know that the color of you skin does matter. I know it hurts to be shocked. I know this poem is long. I know I wrote it in Senior Seminar in fifteen minute of free time. I know this is not a crime. I know that this will be graded. I just don't know if you'll like it enough to comment. I now know Peace.

These few sentences really spoke to me because you really let yourself be exposed to the deepest parts of your soul so that others could understand the way you view the world. I now see that we are very similar.

    2. I like the statement you put " I know blood isn't always thicker than water". The reason I like this because there are times that family can turn your back on you and you end up not trusting them.

    4. What is your justification of your statement "there are no dream is in the ghetto, only helpless hopes and abandon ambitions."? While I do agree with that helpless homes and abandoned ambitions do exist in society's various "ghetto" environments, are you implying that this is ALL that exists there?

    5. This line in your poem really stuck with me."I know blood isn't always thicker than water. I know the sun shines brighter after rain. I know you can never reach the end of the rainbow, but i know it fun to imagine you can. I know sand is nothing but a bunch of small rocks. I know that the color of you skin does matter." This really stuck with me because you often hear the saying blood is thicker than water when in realty its not.I also liked the line about the rainbow because I know no matter how far you try you will never reach the end of your goal.

  12. I Know that the sun doesn't shine everywhere but it does always shine. I know that education is the liberation to the bad influences that surround us. I know that liking a picture on a social networking site can drive people to want more and more. I know that as simple as believing in something can make people get up in the morning. I know that there is no faith in humanity no longer left in me. I know that there will only be a few people in your life that you can trust. I know that to be successful you have to actually try. I know that the cake is a lie. I know that cheating has gotten people pretty far in life. I know that the government is hiding so many things from us. I know that school is boring and it doesn't teach you what really matters. I know that I have finished this poem.

This is an intriguing thought notion that many don't notice.

  13. I think rap helps people through life,
I seen how the city and the communities around
the area where it's bad and whole lot of killing.
I seen children that are lost and lone,
I hear sadness in people how feelings are broken,
I seen people that don't have hope in their life,
I see myself as ghost wonder around the streets that
    nobody don't see me,
I stayed in a house all alone and thinking to myself
"what i would do to myself?",
I thinking in my school was harder"how the students would act to me",
I hearing of people happy and enjoy with each other then
seeing the love and caring in them.
I seen how men and women treat each other nice and buying each
other gifts, love cards, flowers, poems of kindness and everything else that mean to each other,
Why I stayed in the Dark shadows with a black hooded and writing a poem to tell about my lone life in this city,
Also I see the future how it's going to be like
    when I'm gone.
